The house
Built as a sheep farm in 1908. Empty for nineteen years. Reopened with the same stone, darker timber and considerably better plumbing.

Mánahlíð sits where the valley narrows and the road gives up. The main house holds six rooms under the old roof line. Eight cabins stand along the slope below it, far enough apart that you will not hear your neighbour, close enough that breakfast is still warm when it reaches you.
We are not a hotel and we do not pretend to be one. There is no reception desk, no lobby music and no minibar. Booking on this page goes straight to us.

At the house
Four tubs on the slope, kept at 39°C, with no roof and no lighting.
Wood-fired, seats eight, with a stream-fed cold tub outside. 6 500 kr. per session.
Bread from Ólafsfjörður, skyr, smoked trout and eggs. 3 900 kr. per person.

The place
Tröllaskagi is the peninsula between Skagafjörður and Eyjafjörður — the one with mountains that look drawn by someone who had never seen a mountain and simply guessed.
The tunnels from Siglufjörður cut through the worst of it. Mánahlíð stands where the road gives up, forty minutes from Akureyri.
Aurora season runs from September to April. The clearest nights are usually the coldest.
Practical
Check-in 15:00–22:00. Check-out by 11:00. Late arrival is fine when arranged in advance.
Quiet hours are 23:00–07:00. The cabins are timber and the valley carries sound.
All prices include VSK. The Icelandic gistináttaskattur is shown separately before payment.
Free cancellation up to 7 days before arrival. After that the first night is charged.
The same room costs the same either way. The difference is that here the money stays in the valley, and the person who answers your email is the person who lit the tub.
